Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership is excited to share that Blynken, one of its real time oceanographic buoys, is now fully operational and collecting data at its Seal Harbor location off of the western side of Islesboro. On July 14, members of the Hurricane Island team will be providing updates about this buoy and the Pen Bay Marine Data Project at the Turtle Head Preserve as part of an event with Islesboro Island Trust.

Join IIT and the Island Stargazers at IIT’s Blueberry Hill Preserve to take in August’s annual light show - the Perseid Meteor Shower! The Perseid meteor shower occurs every Summer, in our northeast region of the country. It takes place from mid-late July to late August, but peaks mid August.
Come out Wednesday night (Thursday cloudy date) to enjoy one of the major meteor shower events of the year. Bring a blanket, binoculars and whatever late-night picnic you’d like and let’s take in the night sky together!

IIT’s Blueberry Hill is home to apple trees of all ages, shapes and sizes. Some are older than we know and likely the product of unintentional apple trees created from feeding livestock. Some are the first stages of IIT’s heritage apple orchard that we have been expanding on annually for the past three seasons.

The Hot Suppers, including former islanders Annadeene Konesni Fowler, Tom Fowler, and Pete Davis,
plays Americana dance-band music, showcasing a mix of original and vintage blues, country and rock and roll. Their music is marked by huge vocal harmonies, sweet instrumental moments and propulsive rhythms.
